Tesla Autopilot ist natürlich wie jeder Computer auf der Welt eine Kombination aus Hardware und Software. In letzter Zeit war die nächste Iteration des Hardware-Teils ein heißes Diskussionsthema in der Tesla-Community aus Besitzern, Enthusiasten und Investoren – auch bekannt als HW4.
TeslaenthülltDer weltweit fortschrittlichste selbstfahrende Supercomputer wurde am Autonomy Day 2019 des Unternehmens vorgestellt. Damals nannte Elon Musk ihn FSD Computer, doch unter dem Namen Hardware 3.0 oder kurz HW3 erlangte er Popularität.
Mit HW3 hergestellte Tesla-Autos verfügten über 8 externe Kameras sowie 12 Ultraschallsensoren und ein Vorwärtsradar (siehe Abbildung unten).Tesla hat Radargeräte aus seinen Fahrzeugen entferntzugunsten des Tesla Autopilot AI Vision im Jahr 2021.
Obwohl erwartet wurde, dass der nächste HW4-Computer von Tesla irgendwann im Jahr 2021 auf den Markt kommt, behinderten die weltweite Chipknappheit und Lieferkettenprobleme diesen Zeitplan. Erst im dritten Quartal 2022 tauchten in den sozialen Medien, insbesondere auf Twitter, starke Gerüchte über den Start von HW4 auf.
Ein Tesla-Ethical-Hacker mit dem Pseudonym @greenthonly veröffentlichte Bilder des Tesla HW4 Computer-System-on-Chip (SoC), das er von einem neu produzierten Model-X-Fahrzeug erworben hatte. Green teilte auch die Details des HW4-Chips, seiner Schaltung und Anschlüsse auf Twitter mit (Thread unten).

Dies löste unter Tesla-Fans weitere Spekulationen aus, dass die neuen Tesla-Fahrzeuge über neue Kamerapositionen für zusätzliche HW4-Kameras verfügen. Bisher wurde jedoch noch kein Fahrzeug mit installierten neuen Kameras gesichtet – derzeit kursieren lediglich Spekulationen und Gerüchte.
Entsprechendein BerichtLaut Not A Tesla App wird HW4 die neuen Kameras zunächst nicht nutzen. Ich denke, das liegt daran, dass die Autopilot-Software so konzipiert ist, dass sie mit den vorhandenen 8 Kameras in HW3-Fahrzeugen funktioniert. Die Umstellung des Softwareteils auf HW4 wird auch für die Software- und KI-Teams von Tesla eine Lernkurve erfordern.
Mitarbeiterquellen von TeslaScope.com bestätigten, dass bestehende Fahrzeuge, die mit dem HW4-Computer hergestellt wurden, zumindest in den nächsten Monaten keine zusätzlichen Kameras erhalten werden. Derzeit gibt es keine Bestätigung darüber, wann diese HW4-Fahrzeuge die neuen Kamerainstallationen erhalten können.
Allerdings werden Tesla Cybertruck und Tesla Semi Trucks die ersten Fahrzeuge sein, die ab Produktionsstart über die zusätzlichen Kameras verfügen. Tesla strebt an, noch in diesem Jahr bei Giga Texas mit der Produktion von Cybertrucks zu beginnen.

Aufgrund des gleichen Formfaktors der Computerbaugruppe war es möglich, HW2.5-Fahrzeuge auf den HW3-FSD-Computer aufzurüsten. Doch die Hoffnung auf eine Umrüstung von HW3 auf HW4 ist für bestehende Besitzer illusorisch, da die Formfaktoren dieser beiden Tesla-Autopilot-Computer unterschiedlich sind (siehe Bildvergleich von @greentheonly unten).
Wir können beobachten, dass sogar die Kühlkanal-Einlassrohre bei beiden Computern unterschiedlich positioniert sind. Bei HW4 sind die Kühlkanäle an den Seiten mit Abstand verteilt, während sie bei HW3 in der Mitte dicht nebeneinander platziert sind. Es gibt auch einen sichtbaren Unterschied in der Größe beider Computer, sodass ein Upgrade von HW3 auf HW4 nicht möglich erscheint.

Das Infotainment wurde im Vergleich zu aktuellen Geräten überarbeitet. Die GPU befindet sich jetzt auf derselben Platine, also keine GPU-Tochterplatine mehr. Eine weitere wichtige Änderung von HW3 zu HW4 ist die Integration der Infotainment-GPU auf derselben Platine wie der Autopilot-Chip. Bis HW3 waren der Autopilot-Computer und die Infotainment-Computer voneinander getrennt.
Wie wir im obigen Tweet von Green sehen können, hat Tesla das integriertvorhandene AMD Ryzen GPUauf demselben Computer wie der Autopilot HW4-Chip.
Der Hacker fand auch heraus, dass der Hauptprozessor HW4 immer noch vom gleichen Zulieferer Samsung stammt.
